Remy Ma has had enough with the health care industry's and its high cost barriers to access, particularly when it comes to women.
The rapper spared no detail in giving a disheartening testimony on her recent miscarriage. She also discussed how the experience has inspired her to create a fund that will provide mothers who desire to have children but lack the means to seek alternative medical methods such as in vitro fertilization.
In an interview with Essence, Remy Ma expressed her dismay with costly fertility treatments, and how there's a marked lack of will on the parts of health insurance companies to fund such treatments.
In speaking about her miscarriage, Remy Ma said, “First I was distraught, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed; I felt less than a woman and [the doctor] assured me that was no way to feel and that for a certain amount of thousands of dollars, it can be fixed. And because I have the finances, I never even thought twice about it."
She continued by saying, “It’s just weird to me that if you want to terminate a pregnancy, you could use your health insurance; however, if you wanted to conceive, health insurance doesn’t cover that. So I’m looking at all of these politicians that claim that they’re pro-life and they want to eradicate women having the choice to terminate their pregnancies, but if you’re pro-life, why would you not set up something so women who can’t conceive and women who want to be mothers can do so.”
And so the rapper is taking matters into her own hands, with plans set set up a fund for women who, like her, cannot get pregnant naturally, but who, unlike her, are not wealthy.
Remy Ma's advocacy for women like herself and her strength concerning this matter are inspirations to women, and a reminder to us all that even when all seems lost, you have to keep fighting.
Despite her miscarriage, Remy Ma has decided to try to get pregnant again. She and husband, Papoose, plan to again try for a baby through in vitro fertilization.
Well wishes to the #theMackies!
