Residents in Mendenhall, Mississippi, are scratching their heads after city officials told them the black water flowing from their faucets is safe to drink.

According to WAFB, citizen Ronnie Goodman noticed the discoloration Friday morning, June 15.

"It's actually in the water system, and you can look in the back of the toilet," Goodman said as he lifted the toilet lid during his interview. "And as you flush it you see the water stain."

His wife called the Poplar Springs Water District who told her the water was safe for consumption. The station also called and received the same response.

"My question is who would want to sit down at the table and drink some of this?" Goodman asked. The black water was present in Goodman's sinks, bathtubs and washing machine. A trail of it was also streaming down a neighbor's driveway.

The Poplar Springs Water District has not said anything about the water.

The water began to run clear by Friday evening.
