In Romulus, Michigan, a fire raged in the Barrington Apartments on Sunday. With the help from two boys ages 10 and 11, everyone made it out of the fiery building safely according to WDIV 4 News.
At about 6:30 p.m., the two boys saw the fire break out on Wayne Road and ran to the aid of the tenants instead of idling watching in passing.
“When we were walking, I was thinking just to help people,” RJ Stockton, 11, said. “And we saw the smoke, then we went on the other side and saw the fire.”
The boys rushed into the building, risking their own lives to alert the residents of the fire.
“We were yelling, ‘It's a fire! Get out, get out, get out,’” RJ said.
Though the boys' act was courageous, they were not without fear.
“I try not to be scared, but my leg was shaking and stuff,” said Freddie King, 10.
Police agencies and firefighters immediately arrived at the apartment complex, but the boys were the true first responders. There were 24 units that were damaged in the fire and the cause of the fire still remains a mystery.
When asked why they did what they did, Freddie responded with, “So they won't fall out or be sad or die and stuff.”
Though the boys are dubbed heroes for their bravery now, they have high aspirations of serving their communities in extraordinary ways when they get older.
“(I want to be a) policeman so I can help people and (a) firefighter so no one will be in danger,” Freddie said.
“I watch a lot of shows about lawyers and it's interesting,” RJ said who says he wants to study law.
At the young ages of 10 and 11, both Freddie and RJ prove that you are never too young to do exceptional things.
