Salli Richardson-Whitfield expressed her desire to portray legendary singer, actress and activist Lena Horne in her latest eur web interview with Ricardo Hazell. Whitfield, whose show Eureka was just cancelled by SyFy (see post here), will be seen next in Mario Van PeeblesWe the Party along Michael Jai White.

In regards to playing Lena Horne on the big screen, Whitfield says, “One thing that I really want to do is the Lena Horne story. I had a chance to do Lena Horne as a tribute to Halle Berry for the Genesee Foundation. Like Halle has always dreamed of doing Dorothy Dandridge, I’ve always dreamed of doing Lena. I’ve just always loved her. That’s something that me and my management are working.”

Interesting bit there about her management currently working on making this happen. I couldn’t find any more information about a Lena Horne biopic besides talk a while back about an Oprah produced project with Alicia Keys to star as Horne.

Hopefully, we’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, here’s the video of Salli Richardson-Whitfield channeling Horne at the 2011 Jenesse Silver Rose Auction and Gala which was posted on the site back in May.

Would you like to see her play Lena Horne on the big screen?
