Samuel L. Jackson co-stars in this indie action movie that was intially titled Deathsport, when it was announced over a year ago.
Jonah Loop, previously a visual effects supervisor makes his directorial debut with the film, which is now titled Arena.
The story centers on a young man (played by young upstart Kellan Lutz) who is kidnapped and forced into the world of modern-day gladiator fighting, in which battles to the death for the entertainment of online viewers, is standard.
Samuel Jackson’s character organizes each fight, overseeing them from his computer, “with the help of twin ladies who see to his every desire.”
The $10 million production now has a trailer (watch below) and official release date of October 11th, a Tuesday, which means it’s heading straight to DVD, unless it gets a brief theatrical run in the next 2 months; but given the looks of this thing, I doubt it. Though I might watch it on Netflix just to see Samuel get jiggy with it, as he does around the 1:24 mark.
