With just a quarter of the year in the bag, the eight trans people have been murdered, and most of the victims were trans women of color. Sunday, Sasha Wall, a 29-year-old transgender woman was found dead in her car from gunshot wounds in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, according to Pink News

Reportedly, Wall died a slow death, sitting in her vehicle, slumped over her steering wheel, for two hours as motorist drove past. By the time someone finally stopped to check on her, it was too late; she was dead.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks believes Wall knew her killer. “Whoever it was, was angry," he said, according to a FOX Charlotte report. "You could tell by the number of shots."

Wall's friend Donovan Dunlap took to Facebook to pay homage to his friend, writing “you had me always taking photo [sic] of you, you stayed ready for the camera."

“I will miss you my beautiful sister," he continued. "I cannot sleep, I hope they find who did this.”

In the past year, almost 200 trans people were killed around the world, according to the Trans Murder Monitoring Project and Transgender Day of Remembrance; both organizations believe the number is possibly a conservative estimate. Part of the reason for that is police reports commonly misgender trans victims; in fact, the police investigating Wall's case initially made this mistake.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department has not yet named a suspect, but we will keep our eye out on further updates as information is released.
