Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter, Amirah O’Neal, announced in an Instagram post that she will play basketball for Texas Southern University this fall.
The 19-year-old, who previously played for her father’s alma mater Louisiana State University (LSU), will join her younger brother, Shaqir — who also has plans to play for the HBCU's men’s basketball team this fall — HBCU Gameday reported.
The teen, who was a walk-on at LSU, averaged 17.2 points per game during the 2018 – 2019 season. In 2019, she earned the MaxPreps California All-State Girls Team honorable mention and was named a two-time All-state honoree.
Amirah will now play under hall of famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke at TSU and will have a better chance of making it to the SWAC Championship.
She may soon be joined by her younger sister, Me’Arah, who also plays basketball. Me’Arah has received offers from Division I colleges and universities and could potentially choose to play for TSU with her older siblings.
