Black Parkland students continue to take a stand by reminding us that gun control advocacy must address police violence.
On Thursday, Blavity reported black Parkland students were pushing their voices to the forefront after being essentially ignored by mainstream media and the gun control movement. The students hosted a press conference to acknowledge their under-representation.
During the gathering, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School student Tyah-Amoy Roberts gave a powerful speech about the need for gun control to address police violence, which can be seen below:
Tyah-Amoy a Marjorie Stoneman Douglas student said conversations about gun violence have to include police violence. She asked, the same people who showed up for #MarchForOurLives–will they show up for #StephonClark? #AltonSterling? #SandraBland? pic.twitter.com/QIhvy9gYHD

"Black men and women are disproportionately targeted and killed by law enforcement based on population," Amoy says. "These are not facts I can live with comfortably."
Her words were cosigned by Soledad O'Brien on Twitter.

The kids are speaking up, but we must make sure we're listening to black and brown kids, as well. Their fear of gun violence doesn't end with the possibility of a school shooting.
