After admitting to a fan that she once ran a Twitter account with the username @OhDamnYoureUgly, singer Sabrina Claudio has come under fire for racist messages posted from that account.

Though Claudio is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, some of her posts openly mocked dark-skinned Latinas and ridiculed black women. She used the N-word both frequently and casually in her tweets, and, according to one user, even said “”F*ck it, I’ll be a black girl for halloween.”

Other musicians have since distanced themselves from Claudio, including singer Maségo, who, on Feb. 28, requested the two create a song together. However, on Twitter, Maségo has removed the invitation and instead asked that an apology be issued, saying, “I don’t wanna colab no mo. I need an apology to my black queens.”

Claudio later issued an apology via Twitter: “I am deeply sorry for the insensitive words I’ve used. Some of the things you are seeing are true while others aren’t. I realize my past ignorance is affecting people I care so much about, and I am so sorry. I made mistakes, and while I cannot take them back, I will learn from them.”

Some have upheld the belief that change is possible.

“People are allowed to grow,” Atlanta Blackstar reported one fan said. “Who’s to say she hasn’t addressed these issues? She’s also not denying it. Y’all would’ve been upset whether she had apologized or not.”

But most fans have pulled back.

“I love you Sabrina, but you really had a whole page dedicated to insulting Black women, and one comment you made was just this year,” another fan said according to Atlanta Blackstar
