Keke Palmer is creating buzz on the internet after failing to recognize Mulder and Scully from the X-Files. The viral moment happened when Palmer joined Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun and Brandon Perea, her co-stars from the upcoming Nope movie, to take part in a feature for Vanity Fair.

As the stars took turns reading, confirming and denying Nope fan theories from Reddit, Palmer pulled up a card that said, “I bet we see Scully and Mulder.”

The Nope actress paused for a second after reading the card. She then asked, “Who the hell are they?”

The rest of the stars chimed in together to inform Palmer that Scully and Mulder are characters from the sci-fi show The X-Files. Still, Palmer remained confused.

“Why would we see them?” she asked.

After the Nope stars explained that The X-Files involved aliens, Palmer responded with a joke.

“I love those guys, I guess,” she said. “But why would we see them?”

Twitter immediately chimed in, referencing a similar reaction three years ago when she failed to recognize a photo of Dick Cheney. At that time, Palmer inspired the “sorry to this man” meme, according to Vulture.

“I hate to say it. I hope I don’t sound ridiculous. I don’t know who this man is,” she said in 2019, according to Vulture. “I mean, he could be walking down the street, and I wouldn’t know a thing. … Sorry to this man.”

Palmer went to Twitter to respond to the internet’s reactions.

The star jokingly asked her fans “why would they attack me like this.”
