Jurnee Smollett is starring alonsgide Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller in the upcomig Netflix film, Spiderhead.
The streaming service has released the movie’s first look images for the movie, which will premiere on on June 17.
The movie is a psychological thriller
Per an official description of the film, Spiderhead follows a “state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether.”
The book is based on The New Yorker short story by George Saunders, 'Escape from Spiderhead.'
Spiderhead is directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. Mark Paguio and Tess Haubrich also star.
The soundtrack will include pop tunes
Kosinski explained the soundtrack will feature pop classics such as Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science” and Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams.” The idea came to him while he was at his dental appointment.
“I was listening to something like Christopher Cross while getting a tooth drilled,” Kosinski told Entertainment Weekly. “It felt interesting for [Hemsworth’s character] to create this air of relaxation and good times in a facility that’s doing something much more nefarious.”
