Ben Carr, Eric Garner’s stepfather, died at his daughter’s wedding in Jamaica last Friday.

According to PIX-11, Carr was having “health complications” during the wedding of Elisha-Flagg Garner, Eric Garner's sister. The New York Post reports Carr as having passed due to a heart attack.

Carr was often seen alongside his wife, Gwen Carr, as she publicly fought for justice for her son.

In an Instagram post, Rev. Al Sharpton expressed his condolences for the family. The picture shows the Carr/Garner family visiting Eric’s gravesite.

“Almost 2 weeks ago Ben Carr stood with his wife, Gwen Carr (mother of NYPD victim Eric Garner), his grandson, Eric, Jr and his daughter at the gravesite of Eric. This morning Ben passed while in Jamaica attending his daughter’s wedding. I’m deeply saddened beyond words. Pray for Gwen and the Carr/Garner family. #EricGarner” The Reverend wrote.

Just nineteen months earlier, Garner’s daughter, Erica Garner, who was an activist and mother of two, also passed away due to a heart attack. She died at the age of 27 fighting for justice on her father's behalf.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Justice Department decided it will not be charging the NYPD officer choked Eric Garner to death in 2014. The fatal incident was caught on video and sparked a national outcry. However, the officer responsible, Daniel Pantaleo, remains on the NYPD’s payroll.
