Last week, BET announced the departure of two executives.
BET's longtime president, Stephen Hill, who has been a prominent figure with the network since the late 90s was fired. In Hill's departure, it seems that he was abruptly let go of, and reasoning has not yet been made clear.
If you know anything about the magic that Stephen G. Hill can create then you know that we have to thank him for BET programs such as 106 and Park, The BET Awards, The Hip Hop Awards, Real Husbands of Hollywood and The New Edition Story. We're sad to see him go but we'll be waiting to see what he does next. Only up from here!

On the other hand, things become tricky when the head of original programming, Zola Marshariki was said to be out too. Marshariki joined the network in April 2015 and was apparently caught off guard by the announcement of her departure. She went on to send her colleagues an email, notifying them that she’s been on medical leave since February after being diagnosed with breast cancer and that she planned on returning to her job.
In the email, she states, “My job is protected by the Family Medical Leave Act and related statutes (FMLA) and I have a contract in place. Viacom/BET are aware that I am scheduled to return on April 11 and that my medical leave may need to be extended depending on the progress of my recovery.”
However, a spokesperson for BET has stated that she is no longer employed and have denied any allegation of wrongdoing.
How this will play out is yet to be seen, but let's hope it doesn't get too messy.
