“I flew out from L.A. to Detroit and went to see her and spoke with her," recalled Wonder, through tears. "She wasn’t able to speak back, but her family felt that she could hear me. I just said all the things I’ve always said, and told her to say hello to my sister that I lost this year as well.”
Wonder also spoke about the new music the two legendary artists hoped to make.
“We talked about doing some music as recent as maybe two months ago,” Wonder said. “We’d been talking about it. There was a song I had written called ‘The Future.’ And we were going to, you know, sing it together.”
Just imagine the sheer gift that would've been. Iconic.
Wonder also recounted listening to Franklin sing at her father Reverend C. L. Franklin's church when he was about 4 or 5-years-old, because his mother routinely listened to the Sunday church services.
"She touched every genre," he remarked. "Every singer was influenced in some way by the way she sang, and they will forever be influenced by her because of her voice, her emotion, her sincerity is unforgettable."
Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
