Scrubbing the 2014 SXSW Film Festival lineup list for diaspora titles, here’s a musical history documentary from director Martin Shore, titled Take Me to the River – a feature film celebrating the inter-generational and inter-racial musical influence of Memphis amidst pervasive discrimination and segregation, as the film’s synopsis reads.

The film brings multiple generations of award-winning Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians together, following them through the creative process of recording a historic new album, to re-imagine the utopia of racial, gender and generational collaboration of Memphis in its heyday.
Talking heads featured in the film, contributing commentary, include Terrence Howard, William Bell, Snoop Dog, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Frayser Boy, The North Mississippi All-Stars and many more.
Martin Shore, a a Grammy nominated music and film producer, who’s toured with the likes of Bo Diddley and others, is making his directorial debut with Take Me to the River.
The film will be making its world premiere at 2014 SXSW Film Festival, which runs from March 7 – 16, 2014 in Austin, TX.
