After leaving the Toronto Raptors and joining the Los Angeles Clippers, Kawhi Leonard is already making an impact on his city.

Leonard and his new team announced Tuesday that they will donate one million backpacks to needy children, 11 Alive reports. Many of the children are described as transient, in foster care or come from lower economic means. Students who will benefit from the gracious donation are reportedly from Los Angeles Unified, Inglewood Unified and Moreno Valley Unified School Districts.

“My goal this year is to make a meaningful contribution both on and off the court. This felt like the right way to get started," the two-time NBA champion said in a statement.

The Los Angeles native teamed up with nonprofit Baby2Baby to make sure the first day of the 2019-2020 school year started off on the right foot, reports Bleacher Report.

"It was important to me to make this announcement in my hometown of Moreno Valley at my former elementary school, but the benefits this program will have across all of Los Angeles makes today even more special," Leonard told media.

The 28-year-old took home his first championship in 2014 with the San Antonio Spurs and another in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors.
