During a stop on her campaign trail, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams was presented with a bouquet by 73-year-old Charlie Matthews on behalf of the women in his life who did not live to see her compete against opponent Brian Kemp on Tuesday.

Despite Kemp's current lead over the Georgia contender, some absentee and mail-in ballots have yet to be factored into the race. Therefore, Abrams has not conceded.

If Abrams were to win, she'd be the first Black female governor in U.S. history. Regardless of the outcome, Buena Vista, Georgia, resident Charlie Matthews recognized Abrams' accomplishments thus far.

In a viral photo, Matthews approached the former minority leader of Georgia’s House of Representatives as she spoke at a local restaurant.

“He said that he dedicated the flowers to Abrams on behalf of all the deceased women in his family that did not get to see her make it this far in the Gov. race,” Atlanta Journal-Constitution journalist Alyssa Pointer reported.
