A family is heartbroken this holiday season after hate and racism entered their suburban home.

Reston, Virginia, residents Scott Fricker, 48, and his wife, Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, were shot by their 16-year-old daughter's boyfriend at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22.

The couple learned about the 17-year-old boyfriend's racist and homophobic messages and posts online a few days before a confrontation that claimed both their lives. It was Buckley Kuhn-Fricker who discovered the messages and memes when she looked at her daughter's phone. She believed the messages were posted under a fake name.

According to The Washington Post, there were numerous images of the Twitter account that had retweeted praise for Hitler, supported Nazi book burnings, called for “white revolution,” made anti-Semitic comments about Jews and featured an illustration of a man hanging from a noose with a homophobic slur.

Kuhn-Fricker sent an email to the Fairfax County private school that her daughter and the boyfriend attended, asking the administration to discipline the suspected Neo-Nazi.

“I would feel a little bad reporting him if his online access was to basically be a normal teen, but he is a monster, and I have no pity for people like that,” Kuhn-Fricker wrote in the email. “He made these choices. He is spreading hate.”

The Post also reports that Janet Kuhn, Kuhn-Fricker’s mother, believed that the teen was attempting to indoctrinate her granddaughter to the white supremacist ideology. Apparently, this began to take place as early as June when they started dating.

On the morning of the shooting, the parents got into a heated confrontation with the teen when they found him in their daughter's bedroom, The New York Times reports. That is when the teen shot them and himself, police said. The teen has now been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Fairfax Police reported there were four people in the home at the time of the shooting who were not harmed. The shooter has been charged with two counts of murder according to police spokesperson Reem Awad. He is now under police guard as he recovers.
