Update (February 27, 2019): The mystery man who bought hundreds of dollars worth of Girl Scout cookies so troopers could get out of the cold is a mystery no more.

WCMH-TV reports Detric McGowan, whose identity was unknown until late Tuesday, has been arrested on eight drug-related charges. On Friday, one of the scout's mothers took a photo relaying McGowan spent $500 to buy 121 boxes of cookies. In the Facebook photo, which amassed over 10,000 shares, McGowan's identity was not known. The post has since been deleted.

Among his charges are conspiracy to commit bulk cash smuggling, interstate travel and transportation of aid of drug trafficking business and possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin.

Original: Two young Girl Scouts in South Carolina have gone viral thanks to a warm, generous stranger.

On Friday, mother Kayla Dillard and two members of her Girl Scouts troop posted up outside of a store in Greenville, South Carolina, to sell their cookies. The Girl Scouts figured the location would be a good place to move some boxes. What they didn't know was a mystery man would buy their entire supply.

Dillard says that the man first bought seven boxes of cookies and paid $40, telling the troopers to keep the rest.

"Then he came back to the table and said, 'Pack up all of your cookies. I'm taking them all so y'all can get out of this cold,'" Dillard wrote in a Facebook post that quickly went viral.

Dillard, the manager of Troop 1574's cookie sales, says the man spent $540 in total, according to WYFF.

By Tuesday afternoon, the post which has since been deleted was shared over 9,500 times with nearly 1,500 comments.

HuffPost reports Dillard was so overwhelmed that she forgot to ask the man's name.

However, many local commenters on her post identified the generous man as Detric McGowan. McGowan has yet to comment or confirm he bought all of the cookies, but the post is filled with lovely commentary from inspired persons all over.

"What a lovely story in the midst of all the meanness," one commenter wrote. "WOW !!! That man has a wonderful heart … and a sweet tooth," wrote another.

"Beautiful gesture. These little girls will remember this when they are elderly women. This man is investing in [a] better future for all," read a third.
