The New York Post used an image of exploding Twin Towers to bring back memories of the 9/11 terrorists attack after Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) remarks to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of Greater Los Angeles last month.

Omar delivered the keynote address at the group's fourth annual Valley Banquet, during which she stated that CAIR was founded “after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties,” referencing the September 11 attacks and the subsequent years of Islamophobia the group was created to combat.

The newspaper, owned by right-wing media mogul Rupert Murdoch who also owns Fox News, ran the image under the partial quote by Omar and the headline ‘Here's your something,’ drawing a quick reaction from all over.

I’m just thinking about the New Yorkers who commuted to work this morning and and had to see the image of the Twin Towers. For many, that is a picture of their friends or family dying, and @nypost used it because Rupert Murdoch and the right wanted to land a shot on @IlhanMN.

The NY Post knows exactly what it's doing – taking quotes out of context and evoking painful imagery to spread hate and endangering the life of Rep. Omar. Shame on them, and shame on Rupert Murdoch.

In her address, Congresswoman Omar gave her fellow Muslims in the room advice on how to deal with the attacks from those who fear their religion.

“So, to me, I say raise hell. Make people uncomfortable,” Omar said. “Because here’s the truth, here’s the truth: Far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and frankly I’m tired of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it.”

Omar has made public appearances since the CAIR event but has yet to address the comments or cover publicly.
