Maybe we were all too quick to dismiss Pepsi’s Kendall Jenner ad. It seems that it’s inspired at least one Millennial to become more politically active.

At a city council meeting in Portland, Oregon this week, the city’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, sat for questions from his constituents.

One, a young man from Boston who introduced himself as Carlos Enrique, began lamenting the state of political discourse in the city. “There’s so many people that show up to city council, and just kind of get angry at you and yell at you.”

Enrique went on to ask whether all that rancor served any purpose. He argued that he feels that in the end, despite the people’s anger and objections, the mayor does whatever he feels like.

After taking Wheeler through his thought process, Enrique told him that believes that the problem is “that the language of resistance has not been properly translated.”

Enrique then approached the mayor, pulling from inside his jacket a can of Pepsi, handing the drink to his mayor.

Wheeler was not impressed, yelling, “Not a good move! Don’t do that again. Not a smart move.”

Security quickly ushered Enrique out, as the mayor told the rest of the audience not to try anything like that again before throwing some shade at Enrique’s hometown, “If this were the Boston city council, that would’ve ended differently.”

Guess Mayor Wheeler only drinks Coke.
