Barack Obama is once again delivering some holiday cheer.

A few weeks ago, the 44th U.S. President stopped by a Chicago food bank to assist volunteers before Thanksgiving. Now in the holiday spirit, he donned a red cap and a huge bag of presents to surprise patients at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.

The jolly 44th president ho, ho, ho’d his way around the hospital, passing out gifts and even stopping by some rooms for one-on-one visits and to give friendly advice.

“Even the cool kids don’t have it all figured out,” he said to a pre-teen nervous to begin high school, The Washington Post reports.

He also stopped by a group of children who were making snowflakes, handing out jigsaw puzzles, Hot Wheels sets, nail polish, remote-control cars and more.

“I just want to say thank you to all of you guys," Obama told the hospital staff. "I got a chance to talk to some of the wonderful kids and their families and at a time that obviously is tough for folks. As a dad of two girls, I can only imagine in that situation to have nurses, staff and doctors and people who are caring for them, and looking after them, and listening to them, and just there for them and holding their hand, that's the most important thing there is."

Onlookers, including doctors, patients, nurses and family members, also caught the holiday spirit and began to sing a rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” For those who missed his visit, Obama recorded a video message to be played on the hospital’s internal TV system.

Children’s National Health System President and CEO Kurt Newman commended the merry politician.

“I know they will be talking about it for years to come,” he said. “At such a busy time of year, when no one wants to be in the hospital, his natural warmth lifted the spirits of those kids, their parents, and each staff member he met along the way.”
