New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis will not be fined for wearing a “Man of God” headband during a game.

The NFL initially hit Davis with a $7,017 fine for wearing the band during a game on September 22 against the Seattle Seahawks. According to the league, the gear violated their “personal message” uniform policy.

Davis insisted he did not know about the policy and appealed the decision.

"I don't think a lot of people were aware of the policy that was in place — I wasn't even fully aware of it," Davis said. "I just wanted to put it out and just kind of help fans who care about the game understand a more intricate part of the game."

He received outpouring support from fans who believed he should keep wearing the headband.

On Tuesday, he announced the NFL had a change of heart. The league didn’t give a reason for the reversal, but Davis isn’t worried about it.

"I didn't get the specific reason why it was overturned,” he laughed. “I mean, when you get something like that overturned and you get $7,000 coming back to you, you ain't asking too many questions."

For Davis, this situation is a classic case of making lemonade out of lemons, according to ESPN.

"That's a huge win," Davis told reporters on Wednesday. "We've been able to turn it into a positive and use it to raise funds for a hospital that's trying to rebuild this emergency room. And just to have the support of the community — and pretty much nationwide — it's been amazing. And then on top of that, being blessed to win the appeal and be able to take those funds that I was already counting as a loss and further contribute to the cause, it's just a major blessing. And I don't take it for granted."

Davis also secured a bag by selling headbands branded with “Man of God,” “Woman of God” and “Child of God.”The LB also revealed he made over $30K from selling the bands.

He is also planning “something special” for students at St. Louis King of France Catholic School in Metairie, Louisiana, who wore “Child of God” paper crowns in solidarity. Davis thought their crowns were “the cutest thing.

“To have support of the kids at that school, that was just that was unbelievable, and totally unexpected," Davis said.

The fine and proceeds from the headband sales will be donated to St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, which is near Davis’ hometown.
