Fox News has hired a veteran Democratic political strategist as a contributor, and she's a Black woman.

Donna Brazile, former head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), will provide political commentary for morning and evening programming on the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, Variety reports. The New Orleans native is expected to make her first appearance in her new role Monday afternoon on Fox News on The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino.

Brazile announced her new position in an op-ed published by Fox News on Monday entitled, "Why I am excited to join Fox News and take part in a civil — and sensible — debate."

The former DNC chairwoman has tweeted her disdain for the conservative organization in the past but wrote she now believes it is "lack of civility in the heat of battle" that has led to the U.S.' hyperpartisan atmosphere. She said she hopes to "find common ground" on Fox by listening carefully to conservative views and to arguing her case with calm and civility.

"There’s an audience on Fox News that doesn’t hear enough from Democrats," Brazile added in a statement, according to Newsweek. "We have to engage that audience and show Americans of every stripe what we stand for rather than retreat into our ‘safe spaces’ where we simply agree with each other."

Brazile became the first Black woman to manage a presidential campaign in 2000 when she served on Al Gore's team. She worked for CNN for a time before being fired from the network in 2016 after leaked emails suggested she'd used her position to provide Hillary Clinton with debate questions ahead of the event. She had been named the interim chair of the DNC earlier that month and held that position until February 2017.

Fox News will reportedly not include Brazile in any events related to the 2020 presidential debates or town halls due to the controversy. She will, however, provide commentary on the 2020 election.

Brazile said those that fear she has lost the outspokenness she has habitually exhibited during her television appearances (like her turn on The Wendy Williams Show) have nothing to fear.

"You can be darn sure that I’m still going to be me on Fox News," she said. "I’m going to do what I always do: and dish it out straight, exactly as I see it, with just as much New Orleans hot sauce as folks expect.”
