DOPEciety (pronounced Dope-Ciety) is the brainchild of artist Denisio Truitt. Denisio is an accomplished Liberian-American painter, writer, photographer and clothing designer. Daughter of a Liberian immigrant mother and an African American father, Denisio draws on her West African heritage to create her artwork, tackling issues of gender and dual identity, particularly as they pertain to both traditional and modern African communities. The oft-used Deangle mask is from the Dan Tribe of Liberia and is used in masquerades and various rites.
