Marvel is set to show its first openly gay couple on screen.

Marvel’s The Eternals is becoming one of the films Marvel fans are most excited about, partly because Brian Tyree Henry is playing Phastos, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first openly gay superhero on-screen. We now know that Haaz Sleiman has been cast to play that love interest.

In an interview with New Now Next, Sleiman revealed more about his role, saying that his character and Henry’s Phastos will be married and have a child. The couple will also kiss on-screen, another first for the MCU regarding LGBT representation.

“It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” he said. “Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be.”

“Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty in this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point,” he continued. “We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on that human part.”

Fellow costar Lauren Ridloff has also been cast in a revolutionary role. Her character, Makkari, will be the MCU’s first deaf character.

The Eternals will be in theaters on November 6.
