Disney+ has a new movie coming to the platform and its a sequel to the 2020 film Stargirl.

Hollywood Stargirl follows the main character Stargirl as she heads for the bright lights of Hollywood where she uses her voice and free-spirited to bring people together. The film stars Grace VanderWaal, Tyrel Jackson Williams and Elijah Richardson. Julia Hart returns to direct the film as well.

Shadow and Act spoke with VanderWaal, Williams, and Richardson ahead of Hollywood Stargirl‘s premiere and asked them what it was like working together on the drama film.

“My favorite part of filming was being able to work with such an amazing, amazing cast and crew.
As soon as I touched down in LA, Julia made me feel like I was a part of something,” Richardson shared. “And then when Grace saw me, she like ran out to me [to speak], and that was what I loved about that.”

VanderWaal opened up about her experience portraying Stargirl in two separate films, sharing that the director Julia Hart was the one who helped her fall in love with the character.

“The truth is what really brought me to playing the character in the first place was actually Julia Hart,” the actress shared. “She called me because I was kind of recruited for the character. And she Zoom called me and we had a meeting. I could just tell from her energy and her as a being that this was going to be a part of my life.”

Hollywood Stargirl is a film that follows three teens following their dreams. With many young people going after their goals in life, we asked the cast what advice they have for those kids.

“I would have big dreams and have really big goals, but don’t be upset if you reach them at a point different than you expected,” Williams explained. “Things are going to happen at the time they’re going to happen for you. Never stopped believing in yourself. You’re gonna get there, but just don’t have so much pressure on yourself.”

On that note, Richardson added that the idea that “no dream is too big” is the one thing he hopes viewers take away from this movie.

“I’m most excited for them to see it and think like, ‘OK, I want to make a movie.’ That’s what I
want them to take away from this,” he said. “I want them to be able to be OK with going through with what their dreams are. no dream is too big. If you want to go out and make a movie, you can do it with the iPhone.”
