There are some great people in the world, and some of them are spreading warmth to Chicago residents affected by the blistering cold brought on by the polar vortex. The Chicago Tribune reported a group of friends joined together to pay for hotels to house over 100 homeless people camped near Roosevelt Road and Des Plaines Avenue.

Candice Payne, who initiated the plan with her husband, took to Instagram to ask followers to pitch in and sponsor a hotel room.

"It don’t take much to be a blessing to someone else! It’s freezing cold and deadly temperatures outside! For the people who has no where to go, no money, no food, family disowned them… need help it’s not much but to get them out the cold, feed them, and provide them with warm clean clothes is a start," she wrote.

On Tuesday, the 34-year-old took her spouse and friends to a homeless camp, where they gathered as many people as they could before heading to the Amber Inn, the only hotel that would take them.

“This is just regular people trying to help,” Payne said.

The group rented 30 rooms at about $70 a piece. After posting her call to action on Instagram, they were able to secure 60 rooms for four nights, housing 120 people.

According to CBS 2 Chicago, volunteers worked alongside the real estate investor to get “Tent City” residents off of the streets during the week’s sub-zero temperatures. One man was extremely grateful for the help.

“We hear about that on the news and other places but I seen it up close and personal today, and I really want to thank y’all for looking out for our people,” the man identified as Robert told the news outlet.
