Update (August 12, 2021): C-Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, has recruited the effort of notable civil rights attorney Ben Crump to join his legal team.

Miller, who is serving a life sentence for allegedly killing Steven Thomas outside of a Louisiana nightclub in 2002, has maintained his innocence and is seeking social justice, Rolling Out reported.

Joining Crump as a part of Miller's legal team is Ronald Haley Jr.

The attorneys release a joint statement, saying they are working "diligently" to exonerate him. His family has consistently accused Jefferson Parish district attorneys of withholding pertinent evidence and documents that could prove his innocence.

Miller was convicted of murder in 2009 and is currently serving life without parole at the Elayn Hunt Correction Center in Louisiana. He was found guilty with a jury voting 10-2, a non-unanimous ruling that has since been found unconstitutional.

He previously wrote on Instagram about the deplorable living conditions at the prison, urging family members to investigate the deaths of their loved ones.

Miller and his attorneys released a joint statement on the living conditions, saying that a mask mandate has not been enforced and correctional officers are not required to get vaccinated, All Hip Hop reported.

“No one in the State of Louisiana is sentenced to contract COVID-19 nor die from it. There are far too many people who are unreasonably compromised due to existing medical conditions and older age who will suffer or die due to the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant. There is no form of justice that should allow this level of neglect for the health and safety of those who are incarcerated,” they wrote.

"We are monitoring the conditions at Elayn Hunt and are considering taking legal action. We stand with Mr. Miller and everyone who is incarcerated who are in fear of losing their lives due to the pandemic and inhumanity of the correctional system. We demand that the Department of Corrections act immediately,” their statement continued.

Original (August 5, 2021): Corey Miller, better known as C-Murder, is leading a hunger strike at a correctional facility in Louisiana over the death of several incarcerated people due to COVID-19.

The 49-year-old rapper, who is incarcerated at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, said in a statement provided by his publicist, that the institution participates in practices that jeopardize the health of people living at the prison, Fox 8 reported.

“Since the onset of COVID-19, they have continued placing the inmates that have tested positive for the virus in the dorms with inmates that were COVID-19 negative. This has not only spread the virus but has caused abnormally long quarantine times,” he said.

“The COVID-19 positive inmates are put on a two week quarantine time initially but the prison adds new positive inmates to the dorm daily, which then extends the quarantine time two weeks each day that they add a new case,” the rapper continued.

The New Orleans native also said many incarcerated people including those who are terminally ill have not been properly treated and urged “the families of these men” to investigate their deaths.

“I believe that the world should know what is occurring here and their loved ones deserve to know the truth,” Miller said. “Find out who was in the dorm with their deceased loved ones and get statements from them on how they were treated.”

In 2009, Miller was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the killing of a 16-year-old, Reuters reported.

Since then, he has maintained his innocence and believes that he was wrongfully convicted, Yahoo reported.

The rapper said there are 31 concealed documents that show an illegal DNA cover-up took place and as a result led to his conviction and sentencing.

In recent years, a team of people including singer Monica and Kim Kardashian has been fighting for C-Murder’s freedom.
