From writer/director Elene Naveriani – a Georgian director who trained in Switzerland – comes an intriguing feature debut titled “I Am Truly a Drop of Sun on Earth,” which made its international premiere, competing in the Bright Future section of the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year.

The synopsis for the Alva Film production reads: April is released from jail after having been busted as an illegal sex worker. In the basement of a luxury hotel where she works in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia (the Eastern European country), she meets Dije a young Nigerian man. Believing that he’s made it to Georgia in the United States, he finds himself caught in a country that offers him no future. Between lust and survival, in the searing heat of the capital, a strange relation emerges between these two individuals living in the fringes of society.

“I Am Truly a Drop of Sun on Earth” stars Khatia Nozadze as April and Daniel Antony Onwuka as Dije.

Following its international premiere at the IFFR in February, the film most recently screened at the 14th Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz, Austria, just a couple of weeks ago.

No USA playdates at this time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a Stateside festival eventually picks it up.

Cineuropa calls it “a mysterious thing that emanates a venomous and dangerously enthralling beauty,” as well as “fascinating and radical.”

World sales rights to the film are being handled by Film Republic.
