A Georgia police officer was indicted Thursday on murder charges in the 2015 shooting death of Anthony Hill, an Air Force veteran. District Attorney Robert James announced a DeKalb County grand jury indicted James Olsen on two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of making a false statement, and two counts of violation of oath by a public officer.

Hill’s family and attorney were present as the district attorney announced the charges.

The formal charges come nearly one year after the daytime shooting at an apartment building. Olsen shot Hill, who was naked and unarmed on March 9, as officers responded to a call about a man who police chief Cedric Alexander said was “acting deranged, knocking on doors, and crawling around on the ground naked” . Olsen claims Hill lunged at him, prompting the deadly shots. Hill’s family says the 27-year-old suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

Hundreds of supporters and Black Lives Matter protesters gathered outside of the Atlanta area courthouse, chanting for all six counts against Olsen.
