Netflix has announced a 2019 release for the new film Beats, starring Anthony Anderson, Uzo Aduba, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Paul Walter Hauser and rappers Dreezy and Dave East. The film will also introduce 17-year-old Khalil Everage, a native of Chicago’s South Side.

The official description: In this urban coming of age drama, the paths of a young musical prodigy (Khalil Everage) with borderline agoraphobia, and a former music manager (Anthony Anderson) who fell from grace, collide on Chicago’s South Side, and the unlikely duo must come together to free each other from the demons of their past. Beats is the ultimate ode to Chicago and its hip hop scene, as it illustrates the beating pulse at the heart of the South Side.

The film will also feature new and established hip-hop from Chicago’s music scene, including original music from Chicago rapper Young Chop.

Chris Robinson (The New Edition Story) will direct. Anderson will act as executive producer along with Carrie Holt de Lama, E. Brian Dobbins and Mitch Smith. Bob Teitel, Christian Sarabia and Glendon Palmer are producing the film, with Beats screenwriter Miles Feldsott co-prooducing.

The film is set for a 2019 release.
