After being convicted of first-degree manslaughter last May, the man who fatally stabbed Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter is headed to prison.

In a statement honoring his late relative, Freeman lamented her death.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent," his remarks read.

According to The Philadelphia Tribune, Lamar Davenport, 33, was sentenced to 20 years in person on Thursday for killing his girlfriend, E'Dena Hines, in August 2015.

While heavily inebriated with alcohol and the drug PCP, Davenport allegedly stabbed Hines 25 times, per the New York Post. His defense lawyers originally bargained for Davenport to be found liable by insanity, but the judge presiding over the case determined he did not meet the qualifications for that plea. The first sentencing was set for May 29, 2018, but Davenport did not learn of his fate until this month.

Davenport expressed remorse at the sentencing hearing and claimed he doesn't "remember what happened."

In addition to sharing a love of film and acting like her Oscar-winning grandfather, NBC New York writes that Hines also worked with at-risk youth in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Hines was also a student at New York University in its graduate thespian program.
