It’s going to be a good music year.

Allow us to turn your head from the West Coast back to New York, where Nas told Billboard that a follow-up to 2012’s Life Is Good will be dropping this year.

Nas hasn’t been at all quiet since the last album, leading Mass Appeal, working on the Netflix show The Get Down, investing in fried chicken restaurants and guesting on tracks like DJ Khaled’s “Nas Album Done.”

Despite the name of that Khaled track, Nas said of the new album, “It’s not done ‘til it hits the streets,” but also gave fans hope that new music from the record could debut before that happens.

Nas’ team at Mass Appeal spoke to Billboard about working with The Chainsmokers, noting that they — and Nas — liked how the duo “dropped tracks every two to three weeks” finding that doing so built a good momentum for the group.

Before songs from the as of yet untitled 11th album drop, we’ll likely be hearing Nas on songs by Mass Appeal artist Fashawn. Billboard saw both collaborating in Mass Appeal’s new studio in SoHo.
