In an effort to eliminate cost barriers for low-income students applying to college, The College Board, a nonprofit aimed at expanding access to higher education, has implemented a new SAT score submission policy. Students who are already eligible for a SAT fee waiver can now send their official SAT or the SAT Subject Tests to an unlimited number of institutions, Black Enterprise reports.

In addition to the four free submissions students received with registration, the previous policy from 2007 also allowed income-eligible students to send up to four additional score reports for free, a College Board press release stated. Research revealed that low-income students were 10 percentage points more likely to send eight or more reports.

Many students take the SAT the spring of their junior year and the fall of their senior year. Register for one of these dates at sat.org to test next spring.

All income-eligible students can now take the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests, apply to college and for financial aid and send their scores to institutions as they please, all free.

David Coleman, president and CEO of The College Board, said the policy change helps students who need it most.

"The College Board is delighted that low-income students who take the SAT and ACT will now be able to send score reports to colleges for free," Coleman said in part. "I am proud that both our nonprofit organizations are standing up for the students who need it most."
