A Hawaii man wore blackface and went on a racist rant in court because he claimed he was treated unfairly by the justice system.

Mark Char, a resident of Oahu, Hawaii, was convicted of attempted murder and assault for a 2016 road rage incident. In what was supposed to be a normal sentencing hearing, Char came to court in blackface.

According to Hawaii News Now, he reportedly painted his face in a black permanent marker beforehand. Then, he ranted for nearly three minutes about how he was treated like a Black man in an unfair justice system.

“Now this kangaroo court is trying to give me a life sentence for me trying to protect and defend myself against the attack from three guys ― in essence, treating me like a Black man,” Char said.

Three years ago, Char stabbed three people following a heated road rage confrontation. One of the victims was stabbed five times and was in critical condition at the time.

He claimed his attack against the three men was an act of self-defense. Law And Crime reports since his conviction he has been hostile to his own legal team and the presiding judge, Todd Eddins.

“So today, I’m going to be a Black man,” he added.

According to KITV, Halawa prison officials are not sure how Char managed to get a marker. When guards saw his face colored, they instructed him to wash it off. Instead, he refused to do so.

“This continues a pattern of disruptive behavior designed to undermine the administration of justice,” the judge said.

Shenanigans aside, Char was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the attempted murder conviction. Eddins left the man with a few words.

"What you need to do is look in the mirror. And if you look in the mirror, Mr. Char, you're not gonna see a Black person. You're gonna see a menace. You're gonna see a menace to society."

Char will also be facing charges for disobeying Halawa prison guards.
