Update (August 15, 2019): Ashley Edwards claims media reports about the dispute she had with boyfriend Kenneth Atkins are untrue.

Edwards told The New York Daily News the role play suggestion had nothing to do with race and instead was based on “a dominatrix thing.”

She said the police overstated the “slave and slaver” comment in the incident report.

The 35-year-old claimed she only called the police because Atkins “was acting crazy and I didn’t want anything to do with it." She just wanted him removed from the property.

Edward also denies Atkins spat in her face.

“He spit towards me, but didn’t do anything to me,” she said. “If he did that I would have pressed charges.”

Despite Edwards’ unwillingness to press charges, Atkins was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery, according to The Smoking Gun. He was released from county jail after he posted a $1,500 bond.

The 37-year-old is allowed “consensual contact” with his girlfriend per the terms of his release. Atkins will be arraigned on September 9.

Original: While role-play is typically used as a way to spice things up in the bedroom, things took a colonial turn when a bedroom fantasy landed one man in jail.

According to the New York Daily News, Kenneth Atkins was fed up with his girlfriend Ashley Edwards’ shenanigans after she insisted they participate in “slave and slaver” role-play to get in the mood. Police reports indicated that Edwards wanted to act out her fantasy because “she is African American and he [Atkins] is Caucasian.” Insistent on not participating in the disturbing fantasy, Atkins became “verbally aggressive” and spit in Edwards’ face.

Police arrived at the Tampa couple’s home and arrested Atkins for misdemeanor battery. While Edwards asked authorities not to book Atkins, he was sent to Manatee County Central Jail and released the following day. The Smoking Gun reports that Atkins has several convictions under his belt, including grand theft, burglary, narcotics possession, probation violation and battery.

His arraignment date is set for September 9.
