Miss Haze‘s words will grip your soul, her presence and power simultaneously forcing your heart to open to the weight and pain of what it means to be black in America and making you proud to share her same glowing melanin.

She was a runner up in the 2015 Women of the World Poetry Slam. Her performances never cease to leave me in awe, and her newest poem on Button Poetry, “Alligators,” is no exception. Black babies have a history of being used as alligator bait, and in 2015 the monsters that use our children as bait and leave them screaming have made little progress.

“I know, you are tired of hearing about this. What a privilege it is to be tired of hearing about it.”
