A new report from Missouri’s attorney general shows black motorists are 85 percent more likely to get pulled over than white drivers.

According to The Associated Press, Attorney General Josh Hawley’s office released the annual Vehicle Stops Report came on Friday, June 1.

The report also found the racial disparity in stops is getting worse.

The latest figures represent a ten percent jump from 2017 when black drivers were found to be 75 percent more likely to be pulled over compared to white drivers.

Making the numbers even more sobering is black people only comprise 10.9 percent of Missouri’s population while whites are the majority at 82.76 percent.

According to ABC 17, the authors also found that once stops happen, black drivers have a higher stop search rate at 8.77 percent compared to 5.57 for white people.

Unsurprisingly, black people were also found to be more likely to get arrested than whites. The black arrest rate is 6.59 percent, second only to Latinx drivers at 7.12, compared to 4.18 percent for white drivers.

The study compiled data from 606 law enforcement agencies with 55 reporting no traffic stops in 2017.
