Young people took a stand, delivering passionate speeches and calls for gun control during March For Our Lives events nationwide on Saturday.

One of the most impactful young speakers to take the stage during the event in Washington, D.C., was the granddaughter of late civil rights icons Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.

The 9-year-old invoked the famous words of King's "I Have a Dream" speech to demand that we put an end to gun violence around the nation.

"My name is Yolanda Renee King, granddaughter of Martin Luther King and Loretta Scott King," she told the massive crowd. "My grandfather had a dream that his four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream that enough is enough. And that this should be a gun free world, period."

A month after the devastating mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, young people far and wide have forced a new national conversation about gun control. Yolanda's presence at the march means that she is now one of those young people seeking to change America for the better.

In just two minutes, Yolanda's words energized the crowd into a chant.

"Will you please repeat these words after me?” Yolanda asked the crowd. “Spread the word, have you heard? All across the nation, we are going to be a great generation.”

She is the third generation of a family of activists that include her aunt Bernice King and her father Martin Luther King III.
