Former first lady Michelle Obama released her memoir Becoming just a few months ago.

Readers and non-readers alike rushed to get their hands on the much-awaited book, and just a week after its release, Becoming became a New York Times best-seller. Now, the memoir has been named the bestselling book since the 2012 phenom Fifty Shades of Grey. Amazon reported Becoming was the site's No. 1 book for 47 consecutive days.

The book details Obama's experiences growing up in her hometown of Chicago, balancing life, family and friendship; as a young adult battling microaggressions at Princeton; as a Harvard Law-educated lawyer; as a mother, as a wife, as a person being of service to her community and as the former first lady of the United States.

Her book tours have only added to the intimacy readers gain from the memoir. Mrs. Obama, who recently celebrated her 55th birthday, found herself at the center of further praise recently after sharing a hard truth about marriage.

“Marriage still ain’t equal, y’all,” she said at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. “It ain’t equal. I tell women that whole, ‘You can have it all’ — mmm, nope, not at the same time, that’s a lie. It’s not always enough to lean in because that s**t doesn’t work.”
