A trio of senior care providers in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was arrested for allegedly running an illegal fight club at an assisted living center.

Marilyn Latish McKey, Tonacia Yvonne Tyson and Taneshia Deshawn Jordan were charged with elder abuse and assaulting disabled persons. The three women were arrested last Friday following a nearly four-month-long investigation into claims of abuse at the Danby House. According to Fox 8, court documents alleged the women forced a fight between two female residents aged 70 and 73.

Other fights were reportedly filmed and watched as if they were sporting events. Winston-Salem police were made aware of possible abuse in June via an anonymous tip. The Washington Post reports McKey, Tyson and Jordan filmed two residents living in the Danby House's “special care unit” for dementia patients.

Video footage captured on a phone showed one resident fall onto a bed as the other pummeled her. One of the women called out for help, but the three women refused to lend a hand, the Post reports.

At one point in the fighting, one of the care providers reportedly told the victim to stop screaming and continue with the fight.

“When you’re talking about someone who can’t take care of themselves, we’ve got to give specific attention to that,” Lt. Gregory Dorn told Fox 8.

The women are no longer employed at the Danby House. They were terminated in June after a manager was alerted to the violence.

In the aftermath, the senior care facility announced higher standards and vetting procedures to ensure the safety of residents.

"Additional staff training and a more rigorous vetting process for all new and existing employees at Danby House have been implemented," the statement via Fox 8 from the Danby House read.
