Visit Seattle | Sundance Project Five by Five | Jimi Could Have Fallen from the Sky (Terence Nance)

Visit Seattle – the city’s tourism bureau – teamed up with Seattle-based agency PB& and SundanceTV to produce a series of short films that offer varied looks at the city.

Titled “Project Five by Five,” the series invited 5 filmmakers to Seattle to create short films about the city, with each film being inspired by one of the five senses. The series premieres this week at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival, and will be broadcast on Sundance TV and Visit Seattle’s YouTube channel, Visit Seattle TV.

“We steered away from traditional travel videos because we wanted to create content that people could watch in their everyday lives, or when they’re seeking entertainment,” said Ali Daniels, VP of marketing at Visit Seattle. “We want them to go to the Space Needle, but also to see how we make amazing whiskey here.”

Among the 5 short films is one directed by Terence Nance (“An Oversimplification of Her Beauty”) titled “Jimi Could Have Fallen from the Sky.” Its synopsis reads: “This short is the unauthorized, heavily abridged, biographical, visual and supersonic moment about the fact that Johnny Allen Hendrix (aka Jimi Hendrix) knew how to skydive. Set in Seattle where Jimi was born and raised, the film wonders aloud about what this skill meant for the life he went on to lead. Why did he retreat to the sky so quickly before all of us were ready for him to go?”
