Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society production banner has acquired Kingdom of Souls, the first novel in a trilogy by author Rena Barron.

Outlier Society, which is based at Warner Bros., will have Jordan and Alana Mayo produce with Pouya Shahbazian. The screenplay will be written by Misan Sagay.

Here’s the official description of the YA fantasy novel: Born into a family of powerful witchdoctors, Arrah yearns for magic of her own. But each year she fails to call forth her ancestral powers, while her ambitious mother watches with growing disapproval. There’s only one thing Arrah hasn’t tried, a deadly last resort: trading years of her own life for scraps of magic. Until the Kingdom’s children begin to disappear, and Arrah is desperate to find the culprit. She uncovers something worse. The long-imprisoned Demon King is stirring. Outlier Society’s first major studio film, Just Mercy, recently bowed at the Toronto International Film Festival. Their series, Raising Dion, premieres on Netflix soon.

Barron’s next series, Maya and The Rising Dark, is set for release in May 2020.
