The Cannes buzz surrounding BlackKkKlansman has been mighty, and a new clip from the film featuring Adam Driver and John David Washington only aims to keep elevating the buzz until the film is released in theaters.

In the clip, police officers Flip Zimmerman (Driver) and Ron Stallworth (Washington) are arguing over the level of outrage they should feel after hearing some of the vile things the Ku Klux Klan has said about people of color and other minorities in America. Stallworth argues that Zimmerman, who is Jewish, is intent on passing as a “WASP” (otherwise known as a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant) instead of allowing the KKK’s vitriol to enrage him. Zimmerman, however, wants to keep his feelings out of his work.

BlacKkKlansman, a dramatic adaptation of the real-life story of Stallworth, who busted a local Colorado chapter of the KKK in the 1970s by posing as the chapter’s head, is one of the Cannes darlings this year, receiving a 10-minute standing ovation after the film’s screening. Many reviewers have called BlacKkKlansman one of director Spike Lee’s best (and most commercial) works yet. Alongside Washington and Stallworth, the film stars Laura Harrier, Ryan Eggold, Robert John Burke, Corey Hawkins and Topher Grace playing against type as David Duke. BlacKkKlansman will open in theaters nationwide August 10.
