Following the Boulder, Colorado supermarket mass shooting that left 10 people dead on Monday, Fox News host Sean Hannity took the opportunity to slam Black Lives Matter
protests.

While discussing the shooting, Hannity brought up the summer 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, referring explicitly to the “defund the police” sentiments, the HuffPost reported.

"You know, we're often reminded and then we forget," Hannity said to guest and Fox News contributor, Dan Bongino on The Sean Hannity Show. "Remember, 'What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now. Pigs in a blanket. Fry them like bacon.'

"Bottles, rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails,” he added. “They're not riots, we were told all summer to over 2,500 cops injured, but these are the cops that go put themselves in harm's way and in this case, we lost one tonight."

Bongino, a former police officer and Secret Service agent, responded to Hannity’s incendiary comments with admiration and respect for police officers’ sacrifice.

“Yeah, Sean, don’t forget [sic] with this defund the police crowd, that wasn’t a social worker who walked in there,” he said.

The conservative talk show host has a history of denouncing the Black Lives Matter movement after he claimed protestors attacked the White House over the summer.

“Earlier that summer far left rioters surrounded the White House, remember that?" Hannity asked on his show. “The president and his family inside for hours, they attempted to breach the perimeter set up by the Secret Service. Remember we were told the White House complex faced the highest security alert since 9/11/01?”

In 2019, after continually dismissing politicians’ efforts to mitigate the gun violence epidemic, Hannity offered a “solution” by suggesting that there should be more guns available in public settings.

“They should be on every floor of every school,” Hannity said, according to The Washington Post. “We could do that with stores. We could do that in malls. We can do that pretty much anywhere the public is.”

According to the Gun Violence Archive, reports of gun violence deaths increased by more than 4,000 between 2019 and 2020. The Boulder shooting comes exactly a week after an Atlanta-area gunman killed eight women, as Blavity previously reported.

Brooklyn Public Defender Scott Hechinger countered Hannity’s 2019 gun reform approach, explaining that implementing more guns will only exacerbate the epidemic.

"Sean Hannity has obviously never been to schools attended by predominately [sic] Black and Latinx children,” he tweeted. “They're already heavily policed. And the police presence doesn't make students any safer. Just makes it more likely that children will get cuffed & arrested for being children.”

In response to the Boulder shooting, President Joe Biden listed a ban on assault weapons and is urging Congress to pass legitimate gun reform legislation.

"I don't need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense steps that will save lives in the future," he said. "This is not — it should not be — a partisan issue. This is an American issue. It will save lives, American lives. We have to act."
