On such a joyous occasion, many families had difficulty containing their excitement. Thiswhich unfortunately resulted in warrants, possible arrests and $500 fines.

“When she went across the stage I just called her name out,” said Ursula Miller who attended the graduation to support her niece’s achievements.

Another family member, Henry Walker, yelled “You did it baby.”

After yelling the name of their proud graduate, Miller, Walker and two others were asked to leave the ceremony.

“A week or two later, I was served with some papers,” proclaimed Miller. Officers issued warrants for their arrests and threatened to throw them in jail.

According to WREG Memphis News, the Senatobia Municipal School District Superintendent, Jay Foster, filed ‘disturbing the peace’ charges against those who yelled at the graduation. He proclaimed that he was “determined to have order at graduation ceremonies.”

The families continue to speak out, arguing that they were only supporting their loved ones and shouldn’t have to attend a court hearing.

“The fact that I might have to bond out of jail, pay court costs or have a $500 fine for expressing my love, it’s ridiculous man. It’s ridiculous,” proclaimed Henry Walker.

The four charged for disturbing the peace are expected to appear in court on Monday, June 9th.
