It may not be widely known that Will Smith’s younger brother, Harry Smith, launched his own production/distribution company last fall, called Smith Global Media, which opened its doors with the release of the faith-based drama “Believe” in collaboration with Power of 3 Entertainment, described as a story of family, loyalty and love.

The film, written, directed and produced by Billy Dickson, opened in select theatres on December 2, 2016, serving as the debut theatrical release for Smith Global, in partnership with Power of 3.

Harry Smith heads Smith Global Media which receives support from his older brother Will’s more established Overbrook Entertainment, with the newly-formed company’s goal being to focus on projects with budgets in the $5+ million range, to be released theatrically on 300-600 screens nationwide for smaller films, and 1,500+ screens for the higher profile larger pictures.

Smith Global Media continues to make strides, now inking a distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment which will see the studio handle Smith Global Media releases (digital, physical and television) – an expected 10-12 films – through 2020. The announcement was made today by the younger Mr. Smith.

Smith Global’s first release, the faith-based “Believe” (distributed by Byron Allen’s Freestyle Releasing) saw its widest release at 638 screens, closing its run on January 5, 2017, with a $890,303 domestic gross.

On its future slate, there’s the indie western “Valley of Bones,” the family drama “Resolution Song,” the animated feature “Charming,” the fantasy-horror “Trip House,” and the legal thriller “Canal Street” which co-stars Lance Reddick, Mykelti Williamson, all scheduled to be released between 2017 and 2018.

In addition to launching his own film production company, Harry Smith has worked with his older brother Will in real estate and at Overbrook Entertainment. Now he’s apparently attempting to venture out on his own. We’ll certainly be watching…
