Actors Zoey Deutch and Dylan O’Brien team up for their first of two movies set for this year and leading the duo is Graham Moore’s The Outfit.

The Focus Features film follows the story of an “expert tailor who must outwit a dangerous group of mobsters in order to survive a fateful night.” The film also stars Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Johnny Flynn, Dylan O’Brien, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Simon Russell Beale.

Shadow and Act recently spoke to Deutch and O’Brien about the film and the former spoke about her character Mabel, who viewers will find out isn’t who they initially may think she is.

“I think if you give anybody a shot, they will surprise you,” said Deutch told us. “You know, if you really look deeper into anybody, they are never just what they appear to be. And exploring that, what I think is very true for everybody, in Mabel, was really fun. I had a really fun time exploring the stillness and quietness of the character and her watching people and observing rather than participating.”

O’Brien spoke to how the film, which is pretty much contained in the confines of one or two single rooms, is different from a lot of other period gangster films and still seems to fill out a world despite being pretty contained.

“What an achievement to sort of make it still feel dynamic [being strapped to one place I think it’s like a really interesting challenge,” she said. “And I think it’s interesting to see as a viewer and I just think it’s really a testament to what amazing writing can do. Because you don’t need these big set pieces necessarily. You don’t need this big this world-building and all that stuff is like incredible, it’s just it’s a completely different situation. It’s really cool to see something that is so contained and is so reliant on its writing and its characters and its performance. It’s a very cool to be a part of something like that [in this] day and age.”

The Outfit is in theaters now.
