A group of nurses at an Illinois hospital chipped in to help a concerned father out of a bad situation.

Darius Hinkle admitted he doesn’t have a valid driver’s license, but it didn’t matter when his daughter’s life was in danger. On April 4, he noticed his 1-year-old daughter was choking on a penny and acted quickly.

Hinkle and his partner, Donecia Pittman, put their little girl in a car and sped off to Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville, Illinois.

Hinkle was going over 100 miles per hour, and police officers from several agencies were behind him as he drove.

"That's my daughter, I'm not going to let anything happen to her," Hinkle said.

The police approached the family when they arrived at the hospital, and Hinkle was taken into custody. The baby was eventually treated and released, according to the Daily Mail.

"They told us to get out and put our hands up,” Pittman recalled. “And I got out, I put my hands up and I yelled and I told the police my baby is choking. And I told them multiple times that she was choking. They were just worried about the fact that we were speeding.”

The father was also frustrated by the situation.

“How could saving somebody life (my daughter at that) [be] worth going to jail over?” he reportedly wrote on his Facebook page.

When Pittman arrived to bail out Hinkle, someone was already there to pay for his freedom. Pittman had no idea who the woman was until she introduced herself as a nurse from Touchette. The nursing department crowdfunded money to pay for Hinkle’s bond.

"I can't thank them enough," he said.

Thankfully, he and his baby girl survived the ordeal.

"The first thing in my mind was to get her to the hospital," Hinkle told KTVI.
